The Powerball jackpot has soared to a staggering $650 million after Saturday's drawing yielded no jackpot winners. This makes it the 10th largest Powerball prize in history, according to the lottery's official website.
The winning numbers for Saturday's drawing were 7, 23, 24, 32, 43, and the Powerball was 18. With no jackpot winners, the estimated prize for Monday's drawing now rises to $650 million, with a lump-sum cash value of $328.3 million, as stated by Powerball. The winner would have the option to choose between the annuitized prize spread over 30 years or to take the lump-sum payment. Both prizes are pre-tax, according to lottery officials.
Three tickets from Saturday's drawing matched the first five numbers, each winning a prize of $1 million. These tickets were sold in California, Illinois, and Colorado, as per the Powerball website. This marks the 34th consecutive drawing without a jackpot winner.
The decision to raise the jackpot was due to strong ticket sales and an increase in the interest rates used to fund the annuitized prize, according to a spokesperson for the Multi-State Lottery Association, which helps run the Powerball.
The last time a lottery player matched all five white balls and the red Powerball was on April 19, when a winning ticket in Ohio earned a grand prize of $252.6 million. The largest-ever Powerball prize of $2.04 billion was won in California on November 7, 2022.
In addition to the Powerball, the Mega Millions jackpot is also nearing half a billion dollars, making it the 14th largest prize in Mega Millions history. Players will have a chance to claim the $480 million jackpot during Tuesday's drawing.
