Elton John, the music superstar, has officially concluded his 'Farewell Yellow Brick Road' world tour in Stockholm, marking the end of his touring career that spanned over five decades. The final concert, held at the city's Tele2 Arena, was a poignant moment for both the artist and his fans.
The 'Farewell Yellow Brick Road' tour, which began in North America in 2018, included 333 shows and lasted nearly five years. The tour was attended by more than six million fans worldwide, making it one of the highest-grossing concert tours ever. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and a hip injury that required surgery, John resumed his tour in January 2022 and continued to perform for the next 18 months.
In his final concert, John performed some of his biggest hits, including 'Bennie and the Jets', 'Philadelphia Freedom', 'Tiny Dancer', 'Rocket Man', and 'Candle in the Wind'. The last song of the night, and the tour, was the semi-title track, 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road'.
Before performing the final song, John expressed his gratitude to his fans for their unwavering support throughout his career. He said, "I've had the most wonderful career… beyond belief. Fifty years of pure joy playing music… how lucky am I? I wouldn’t be sitting here… it wasn’t for you. You bought the singles, the CDs, the albums, the cassettes… [and] more importantly, you bought the tickets to the shows. You know how much I love to play live. It’s been my lifeblood to play for you guys. You’ve been absolutely magnificent.”
While this marks the end of his touring career, John hinted at the possibility of a "one-off thing" in the future. For now, he plans to focus on his family and enjoy the fruits of his illustrious career.
Elton John's final tour not only signifies the end of an era but also celebrates the remarkable journey of a music legend who has touched millions of hearts with his timeless music
